Alliance result not so good on closer inspection

At first sight the Alliance profit of $10.1 million for 2016 appeared to be a small but definite improvement over the previous year’s result when no supplier distribution was made. In contrast the directors have decided to pay $9.8 million to their suppliers, although about a third of this will be retained to ensure suppliers share up to a shareholding consistent with their livestock supply volumes. Therefore the final post tax profit was a bare $100,000. (more…)

Silver Fern Farms forecasts positive result for the year

A note to shareholders last week updated the company’s position after 9 months and predicted a substantial improvement on last year. Gains have occurred across the board with sales up 8.6% or $150 million, debt $100 million lower and improved inventory turnover. (more…)

Drought hammers stock numbers and puts pressure on procurement prices

Last summer’s drought has badly affected breeding numbers and next season’s lamb and beef cattle numbers. The far north’s ewe population was particularly heavily hit, while the breeding cow herd in the Taranaki – Manawatu region was 11% down purely because of the drought. (more…)
